The Date, Time and
Venue of Wedding
Are your dates going to depend on when you can get time off work? Whether school holidays are on? Whether the seasonal conditions are suitable (ie if you’re having a beach wedding, you’d probably not want to have your wedding in winter).
Finding a Celebrant
Is the celebrant a right “fit” for you, do you feel comfortable with them? Are they reliable?
Do they fit in with your style of ceremony? Are they laid back and friendly, or more formal and precise?
Budget
Will you be having a big family and friends gathering at a fancy Reception venue?
Or would you prefer a small, intimate reception at a local club or restaurant?
Important Legal Documents
You will need to ensure you have the correct identification documents available.
Documents can include your birth certificate, drivers’ licence, passport, or citizenship documents.
If you’ve been married before do you have paperwork to prove how your previous marriage ended – such as divorce or death certificate?
The Ceremony
Do you want a large ceremony where you can involve some of your dearest family or friends with readings, rituals and other traditions?
Do you want something more casual, not too formal and in a laid back setting?
Are there any rituals / poems or readings that you specifically want included because of nostalgic reasons?
Will you have attendants, a flower girl or a ring bearer?
Is there any specific people you would like mentioned in your ceremony – (such as a relative who has passed away etc).
Venue
Is the venue able to be accessed by people who are less than mobile? Does it have wheelchair access?
Does your venue provide a place for you to have a rehearsal about a week before your ceremony?
If you are having your ceremony in a public place such as a park, do you need a permit?
If it rains, do you have a contingency plan for somewhere else to hold your ceremony?
Rehearsal
Will you be having a rehearsal?
(A rehearsal is always a good idea)
Music Choices
What music will you enter the ceremony to and leave the ceremony from?
What music do you want to play while you are signing your legal documents or while guests wait for you to arrive?
Vows
Will you write your own vows? Do you want some guidance from the celebrant or examples from other couples?
